What are the objectives of Shark-Tracker?
The basic idea of Shark-Tracker is to use high-tech-tools and the "gadget-fun-effect" to win new fans for the most famous fish in the ocean, the great white shark, while simultaneously raising funds to support vital scientific research. With Shark-Tracker we want to build bridges between humans and great white sharks: to show people the magnificence of Hollywood's favourite predator and the urgent need to help white shark populations recover from the decline they have suffered throughout the world and avoid that they fall down closer to extinction.Fundraising for sharks is a permanent uphill struggle. Great white sharks do not possess any of the typical heart-stirring "cuteness features" that other endangered species have: furry coats, cute eyes, cuddly looks. Even worse: For many people they represent the terror of the sea, dangerously threatening, cold -blooded eating machines. We want to counteract some of the misconceptions surrounding great white sharks and encourage people to see the highly seductive combination of large size, unlimited power, charisma, fear and mystery that make the great white shark such a fascinating creature. While they don't appear to be needy at all, they need our help as much as orang-utans, panda bears, tigers and elephants do. If we don't protect sharks, the health of the oceans will be severely threatened because sharks serve as keepers of the ecological balance in many marine ecosystems.
