How much does a shark - adoption cost?
Satellite-tagging-studies are extremely important to revealing the secret life of great white sharks. Our capacity to develop really powerful conservation measures depends on our ability to gain more insight into their biology and ecology. However, satellite-tagging studies are extremely expensive because they involve expensive cutting-edge technology, going out to sea on ships, and quite a big team for execution. To give you an idea: An average tagging-expedition takes between three and four weeks in the field; the expedition team consist of scientists, veterinarians, technicians, photo- and videographers, and the boat-crew; International travel, field equipment etc. eat up a good amount of money, but the lion's share is the boat-hire (can cost between 1500 and 8000 Euro per day!) and the satellite tags. Depending on the specific type of tag, a single satellite tag costs between 1500 and 3000 Euro!It is our intent that Shark-Tracker will provide strong financial support for important satellite-tagging studies like Dr. Bonfil's in New Zealand and Mexico (A small share of the money will also be used for important education work and material). Therefore a standard sponsorship, which includes full access to Shark-Tracker, all the exclusive features and materials, plus a welcome-kit, is priced at 500 Euro. Sponsors can choose between the great whites equipped with near-real time satellite tags. Portraits of the sharks will help to make a decision on an animal. Since there are only a limited number of white sharks tagged with near-real time satellite transmitters, each animal will have more than one sponsor. Of course we will also offer an exclusive alternative. In exchange for a higher donation, a sponsor can adopt a shark of his or her own, name the animal and enjoy other benefits we offer only to exclusive sponsors. Note: The adoption is valid for the period the satellite-tag is attached to the shark. On average a tag lasts for about six month.
